This is even cheaper then Mumbai locals, which charge more for even half an hour’s journey – Rs 15 to Rs 20, depending upon the destination. IRCTC via its Twitter account said, “Witness a journey like never before on the Steam Express from Garhi Harsaru to Farukhnagar at a minimal price of Rs. 10 only! Bookings are open for this unique journey.”
After steam trains were stopped on Indian Railway tracks, this is the first time that a time-tabled train throughout the year has been started at normal fair of Rs 10/- from Garhi Harsaru and Farukhnagar.
To fulfill the commitment by Chairman Railway Board during his visit to Farukhnagar, the weekly steam train “Swachhata Express”was inaugurated and flagged off on September 15, 2018 by CRB Ashwani Lohani alongwith GM Northern Railway, PCME Arun Arora and DRM/DLI.
It is envisaged that the tourists and steam enthusiasts from all over the world shall visit these places for a ride on steam engines hauled train, increasing tourism related activities in the region.
Presently the train is being hauled by WP7200 AZAD, a broad gauge 1947, make steam locomotive.
The locomotive has been restored to its pristine beauty with its revival being carried out at Heritage Steam Shed, Rewari and DEMU-Shed, Shakurbasti.
On its website, IRCTC said, “It is a great day in the history of Indian Railways that Heritage is being preserved and its display and ride is now open to public at a normal fare of Rs. 10/- only.
