This may be one of the most bizarre things that you hear today. An app launched in Mumbai–named Rent A Boyfriend–claims to ‘cure depression’ by ‘renting a boyfriend’.

Launched in Pune and Mumbai, Rent A Boyfriend (RABF) is the brainchild of 29-year-old Kaushal Prakash, who claims to have created this app with the sole purpose of ‘curing depression.’ (Because who needs psychologists and psychiatrists, right?).

His whole concept is based on the idea that depression in India can be eliminated by providing boyfriends to everyone. Yes, beat that.

This interior decorator-turned-entrepreneur Prakash asserts, “There won’t be any sexual relations or private meetings.” His statement obviously does not explain then why is his website flooded with shirtless pictures of men–ranging from age 22-25–showing off their fine abs.

The entrepreneur cites his suffering from Depression as the main reason for creating and launching this App. Now here come an even more hilarious narrative; RABF also has a toll-free number where anyone who feels depressed can vent out for a period of 15-20 minutes for Rs 500.

When asked why shouldn’t people consult psychologist and psychiatrist instead? He responds, “In India, people have that typical ‘Log Kya Kahengey’ reaction, the same response girls get when they wear short clothes.” Slow claps for being ignorant and misogynist to Prakash.

To add salt to the injury, while the website claims that men need to be‘well-behaved’ and provide ‘emotional support, still, the men who are hired are required to be only 10th or 12th standard pass.
