Beware, cyber criminals have duped many in the name of free gifts from this website.

NEW DELHI: A gang of online crooks duped many people of huge amounts by luring them with offers of free gifts on a fake e-commerce portal.

Probe revealed that several people received calls from alleged agents of a website ‘Kart4all’ and were told that they were eligible for a free gift under the company’s promotional offer.

The fraud was reported by a Maharashtra-based student. In his complaint, the youth told cops that in February, he received the call from a man claiming to be the executive of a Delhi-based online shopping company. He was told that since the company was expanding its business, it was giving free gifts to selected customers.

Explaining the deal, the suspect told the youth that to claim the gift, he had to purchase any item from their website worth at least Rs 500, following which he would be eligible to get a laptop or an LED TV. Convinced by the offer, the youth purchased a bedsheet from the website and was then told that he would get a laptop worth Rs 80,000.

However, the youth was soon told to transfer Rs 12,000 as part of GST payment and later was again asked to pay Rs 27,000 as insurance. The crooks convinced him that these payments would be refunded subsequently. When even after making these payments he did not receive the laptop, he filed a complaint with police.

As investigations began, cops discovered that the gang had cheated at least 100 people with this modus operandi. In some of the cases, they even sent the items made on minimum-purchase basis.
