14 ‘popular’ apps at risk of banking malware

Android smartphone users beware, the security company Quick Heal Security Labs has detected two banking Trojan malware designed to steal financial/banking data by using some of the most popular social media and banking apps. These banking Trojan malware mask themselves with the icon of Adobe Flash Player and the name ‘update’. Once installed on a smartphone, the malware gains access to special privileges by forcing users to select the ‘Activate’ button.

There’s a list of apps that the Trojan has been designed to imitate to trick users. And so, after gaining special privileges, it searches for these apps on the infected phones. The malware then displays a fake window that asks for the user’s debit/credit card number. If the user enters the card number, the banking Trojan collects this information and sends it to a malicious server.
