WhatsApp web has finally received the support for videos hosted on Facebook, YouTube and Instagram. The feature was first rolled out in December last year. However, it then worked for shared videos only enabling WhatsApp web users to watch video within the app while chatting simultaneously.

According to a report by WABetaInfo, the feature comes with the app’s latest version 0.3.2041. Once a video or a video link is received, WhatsApp will show a preview of the video. Tapping the link will open the video in Picture in Picture mode automatically. WhatsApp web users will be able to switch the chat without closing the PiP, the report added.

The WABetaInfo report also comes with a cautionary note asking users to wait for a few seconds before sending the link of the video. This is in order to allow WhatsApp to load the preview, else the PiP won’t be presented, it said.

The update also comes with some security fixes and new improvements. Though the WhatsApp Web site automatically recognizes the update, users can also force it by clearing the browser’s cache.

Meanwhile, the Facebook-owned WhatsApp is reported to bring Dark Mode feature for both Android and iOS platforms. As the name suggests, the feature will turn the background of WhatsApp chats dark. It will be similar to Dark Mode feature already available on YouTube, Twitter, Google Maps and other apps. Recently, alleged ‘concept’ images of the upcoming feature were spotted online, giving us a glimpse of how the WhatsApp Dark Mode may look like. Screenshots of the ‘concept’ images were shared by WABetaInfo on microblogging website, Twitter.
