These Google devices are now officially ‘dead’.

NEW DELHI: Last year Google launched its Android tablet — Pixel Slate along with its flagship smartphones — Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL. But it seems that the device was not able to do wonders for the company as Google has decided to exit the tablet business.

Yes, you read it right. Tech giant Google has officially announced its exit from the tablet business. The company was working on two smaller sized tablets which were scheduled to be released by the end of this year, but now Google will not launch them. The people who were working on the tablets have now been shifted to the laptop division as the company will now be focusing on laptops. Google is expected to launch a new Pixelbook called Pixel 4 later this year.

The device is said to be the successor of the original Pixelbook which was launched in 2017.

Rick Osterloh, SVP devices and services, Google announced the exit of the company from the tablet business on Twitter. Osterloh tweeted, “Hey, it’s true…Google’s HARDWARE team will be solely focused on building laptops moving forward, but make no mistake, Android & Chrome OS teams are 100% committed for the long-run on working with our partners on tablets for all segments of the market (consumer, enterprise, edu).”

He also added that the Android and Chrome OS teams will continue working with their partners to work on tablets for consumers, enterprise and educational segments. He also said that Pixel Slate will still continue to get updates. Google has also promised software update for the tablet till June 2024.
