Telecom company BSNL may turn off! The central government can take steps because of this

Since the entry of Reliance Geo, the price hike in the telecom industry has also hit the government telecom company BSNL a major setback. The company is in constant deficit and the central government is preparing for its disinvestment. But, now the news is that the central government itself has suggested to close the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). The company has been asked to consider this suggestion. However, till now the government was planning to adopt the process of disinvestment in it. Now, there is a danger to employees from employees to BSNL users. If the company closes, then it can be a big setback for the company.

The losses of more than 31 thousand crores, according to the Times of India news, BSNL’s total loss has reached Rs 31287 crores till the end of fiscal year 2017-18. According to sources, recently telecom secretary Aruna Sundarajan held a meeting with the top officials of BSNL. At the meeting, BSNL officials have been asked to consider shutting it down.

In the presentation meeting of BSNL, BSNL chairman Anupam Shrivastava presented a presentation. In this presentation, the impact of the company’s financial condition, losses and Reliance Geo’s impact on the business was affected. Apart from this, the employees’ volunteer retirement scheme (VRS) and premature retirement plans were also presented.

If the disinvestment is not done, then considering the company’s closure, the government is preparing for the disinvestment of BSNL on one side. Right now, the company has asked to consider shutting down business. The government has asked BSNL to consider all the options. According to sources, BSNL has to consider 3 options. These include strategic disinvestment in the first company, the closure of the second company’s business and the strengthening of the company with the third financial assistance.

What is the big challenge for the company?

BSNL has said in its presentation that except for competition from other companies, their biggest challenge is its large number of employees. To reduce the number of employees, the option of reducing the age of VRS and retirement from 60 to 58 has also been given. According to the company, if the retirement age is reduced from 2019-20, then it can save the company Rs 3,000 crore in the wages.

According to BSNL, 67 thousand employees on target will be targeted for 56-60 years of work through VRS. There are about 67 thousand employees in this age group. The company says that if the VRS is given to 50 per cent of these ie 33846 employees, then it can save Rs 3 thousand crore in salaries. Apart from this, grace amount can be Rs 6,300 crores from Rs 6,900 crores in different items.

Suggestion for linkage:

BSNL has also suggested monetization. In this, 15 thousand crore rupees can be mobilized by selling large land and buildings of BSNL. The company said that this work can be done by the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) in the next two to three years.
