SBI customer? You have only 2 days to stop your internet account being blocked


If you are a State Bank of India (SBI) account holder and use its internet banking service, you have only two days keep your online account running. The country’s largest bank said net-banking accounts will be blocked if the account holder does not link his/her mobile number with the account before November 30.

“As per Reserve Bank of India (RBI) advisory, it is mandatory to register your mobile number to avail internet banking services. Pregister your mobile number with Bank immediately through your Home branch / any Branch, if not already registered, failing which your access to Internet Banking Services may be stopped with effect from 01.12.2018.

According to a RBI July 6, 2017 circular, banks must have registered mobile number of their customers for SMS alerts for electronic banking transactions like internet and mobile banking.

You can yourself check whether your number is registered or not by logging on to the SBI website. You can also register your number on the site too.

Non-internet banking users can visit SBI nearest branch to place a request for linking of mobile number with the account.

  • Open onlinesbi.comlog on to the internet banking services
  • Enter internet banking login and password.
  • Click on My Accounts
  • Visit the Profile tab
  • Go to Personal Details/Mobile
  • Enter the Profile password
  • If the phone number is linked then the it will be displayed on the screen. If the number is not registered then you have to visit the nearest branch to get it registered

Meanwhile, SBI is also making changes in three other services. The bank is shutting down its Buddy app on November 30. It has introduced YONO app to replace the Buddy services.

The bank has also informed its customers to upgrade their existing megastrip debit card to newer EMV chip-based cards for enhanced security. You can replace your ATM card without any extra cost before December 31 by visiting any SBI branch or through internet banking.
