Rs 100 Coin With Vajpayee’s Portrait To Be Launched Soon

In an official statement on Thursday, it was said that a new Rs 100 coin with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s image will be launched to commemorate his birth anniversary, that is on 25 December.



The statement said that the reverse side of the coin will bear Vajpayee’s portrait with “the inscription ‘अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी’ in Devanagri script and ‘Atal Bihari Vajpayee’ in English shall be written on the top left periphery and the top right periphery of the coin.” It will also bear the year “1924” and “2018” on the bottom of the portrait, marking his year of birth and death respectively.

The front side or the face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capital of Ashok Pillar in the Centre with ‘सत्यमेव जयते’ (Satyamev Jayate) below it. The left periphery will have the word ‘भारत’ (Bharath) in Devanagri script and right will bear ‘INDIA’ in English. The coin will weigh 35 grams.

The former prime minister died on 16 August this year. He was 93 years old. Following his death, several landmarks including four Himalayan peaks have been named in his memory. Uttarkhand’s Dehradun airport has been named after him as well.
