Right to light scheme was launch by Central Government of India with objective to provide solar lamp to each school student of Uttar Pradesh to study in evening and night. This scheme was started in 5 states of India including Bihar, Jharkhand and Assam along with Uttar Pradesh. This scheme has already started in 4 states other than Uttar Pradesh and will be started very soon in Uttar Pradesh also.

This scheme will going to help 1.03 crore student across Uttar Pradesh, where electrification is less than 50%. In this scheme beneficiary student will have to pay some of the amount of the lamp and rest will be paid by the MNRE (Ministry of new and renewable energy). Aim of central government is to distribute 1 Crore solar power lamp to student who fall below poverty line or under BPL.

To meet the budget government has come up with the plan that the bulb will not be provided free to the student. But the student will get the bulb on highly subsidized prices and rest cost of manufacturing and distribution will be bear by ministry of new and renewable energy.

This scheme will be implemented in the same manner like Uttar Pradesh government implemented their own solar power electricity scheme Under the UP government scheme they have provided the 2 to 3 watt bulb, ceiling fan and points for charging mobile phone in all BPL house across Uttar Pradesh. Right to light scheme will be implemented in the same manner.
