Indians will soon get these data-saving features on their Anroid TVs.

Google is introducing four new features for those Android TV users in India. These TV features aim to save as much data as possible while streaming videos. As mentioned by Joris van Mens, product manager at Google, Android TVs are gaining popularity in India, however many still don’t have Wi-Fi at home and stream videos by using their smartphones as hotspots. This results in massive data drain.

“Today, we’re proud to introduce a set of 4 new features for India that help users get the most out of their smart TV with limited mobile data (and it works great with Google’s Files app),” said Mens in the blog post.

Data Saver: This Android TV feature, as the name suggests, reduces the data usage on mobile connections. It also results in up to three times more watch time.

Data Alerts: This feature lets you easily monitor how much data is being used while watching TV.

Hotspot Guide: For those who don’t know how to connect their TVs with a smartphone hotspot, this feature will guide them.

Cast: This feature is for the Files app. It lets you view downloaded media from the handset on to the TV without using extra data.

Google says that these features will take some time to reach all Android TV users in India. Xiaomi, TCL and MarQ by Flipkart will be the first ones to get this feature. The Cast feature for Google Files can be used but only you are a part of the beta program. The final version is supposed to arrive in the coming weeks.

Talking about Android TVs, the competition only seems to be heating up for now. Xiaomi just launched four new Android TVs in India. Motorola too introduced new TVs with inbuilt soundbar in the country this week. OnePlus is also gearing to launch its first ever Android-based smart TV soon.
