How to change passenger name:

According to IRCTC, the traveller with a confirmed e-ticket booking can change the name of the passenger by visiting the nearest Railway Reservation Office. In order to change the name, you must visit at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the concerned train. In terms of rules, the name change facility can be availed only at reservation offices and the request must be made in writing at least 24 hours prior to scheduled departure of the train.



A confirmed booking can only be transferred to another member of the family and the person should be related in the form of mother, father, brother, sister, son, daughter, husband, wife, etc. In order to ensure transfer of the ticket, one must bring a print-out of the electronic reservation slip along with photo ID proof.

Other rules or terms to keep in mind

The option to change the passenger name can also be availed by those in a government service and currently proceeding on duty. In such a case, the person can make a written request at least 24 hours prior to their scheduled departure of the train. IRCTC notes that such request for name change can only be made once for a journey.
