People are likely to get their DL/RC delivered at their doorstep for just Rs 50 through government’s new proposed scheme. Under the scheme, applicants can call a helpline number and a ‘mobile sahayak’ will be assigned to them who will help them with the process of filling up online forms as well as booking your slot for a driving test.

New Delhi: Delhiites will soon get vehicle registration certificates (RC) and driving license (DL) delivered right at their doorstep. The Delhi government is all set to launch a project to provide home-delivery of DLs and RCs, reported the Times of India. The government will begin with DLs and RCs initially and will further include other services as well. The applicant will be charged a service fee of Rs 50.

The publication quoted an unmanned official as saying that under the proposed scheme applicants can call a helpline number that is being set up. Once they secure an appointment, a ‘mobile sahayak’ will visit them with a tablet and will help them fill up online forms. This will be similar to visiting regional transport offices (RTO), the only difference is rather than you approaching the helpdesk, the helpdesk will come to your help, the official mentioned.

The official added that the assistants will also help in fixing an appointment for driving test. “Though these services are already available online, there are many people who are not very tech-savvy and are not comfortable filling the forms online. Also, many people don’t have easy access to internet services and have to look for a cyber café,” the official told the ToI.

It may be noted an applicant will have to visit an RTO for the driving test and once they clear the driving test, their permanent driving license will be delivered to their doorstep. The official also said that the assistants will be given tablets and scanners in order to scan and upload essential documents needed for the transfer of a vehicle.

Worth mentioning here is that the department is also trying to make the process of conducting driving tests hassle-free. The official further said that about 100 driving tests will be conducted and videographed on a day-to-day basis.
