Google Is Making It Easier To Share Locations In Maps, Here’s How.

NEW DELHI: While in India, Google added the support for rickshaws in Google Maps as a part of 10.6 update, in select countries it is doing some extra effort. The search giant, as reported by 9to5 Google, is rolling out Maps update v10.6.1 to select users. The update doesn’t bring a ‘major’ change but solves one of the issues that made the service slow on Android smartphones.

With v10.6.1, the firm has reworked the sharing menu, which until now used to take few seconds to load individual social icons and other options properly. This often led to users mistakenly pressing a different sharing option.

The new sharing menu design gets rid of the vertical loading issue. The redesigned share sheet in Google Maps now has a dedicated carousel for contacts with the second one being there for social apps and actions. This reduces the last second-loading of the sharing panel.

A minor change is also seen in the share sheet is that it has a more rounded corner instead of a sharp-cornered one seen in older versions. The ‘To’ field for filling up names, phone numbers or email stays on top. Above the share sheet is the card for the dedicated location that you are about to share with others.

There is no word as to when exactly Google will roll out this feature more widely to all the Maps users on Android.

On a related note, Google Maps in India has started showing auto-rickshaw as a public mode of transportation. Once you chose this option, Maps will show you the estimated price for the journey from one location to another. It will also show the routes traffic condition. The route maps and fares are shared by the Delhi Traffic Police. The feature can also be accessed through the ‘cab’ mode.
